*New! Yorkshire Day Trip

Yorkshire Day Trip from Liverpool

At over 12,000 square kilometres, Yorkshire is the largest county in England. Home to three National Parks, 11 National Nature Reserves and known as ‘God’s own country’ by the famously friendly and down-to-earth locals. The stunning natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales is matched by the charming historical cities and gorgeous villages.

North Yorkshire has a wealth of places to visit for all tastes from the pure natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales to its vibrant market towns and villages. This Yorkshire Dales National Park trip highlights some of the most picturesque places to visit in the region and makes for a stunning day out.

This trip includes a guided walk at Malham Cove -Malham Cove is a huge natural limestone cliff which was once a spectacular prehistoric waterfall. At the top of the cove is a fine limestone pavement – which provides a wonderful viewpoint over Malham and Malhamdale. You have to earn these views by climbing the 400 steps up! If you don’t fancy the climb, you can relax by the river and admire the beauty of the cove and the natural scenery all around.

From there we will visit Skipton for free time to enjoy a coffee or snacks. You can visit the quaint shops and cafes or take a stroll along the Leeds-Liverpool canal. Skipton is also famous for a 900 year old castle! If you’d like to visit the castle, we recommend booking tickets in advance Book Skipton Castle Tickets Here . We should be Skipton from approx. 1-3pm.

We will finish the day by visiting the beautiful landscaped grounds of Bolton Abbey where you can sit by the river or explore the ruins of the 12th century Abbey.

Trip Itinerary

We will have a guided walk to Malham Cove where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. Should you wish to get a great view from the top of the cove you have the option to climb the 400 steps to the limestone pavement from where you can see all around the surrounding countryside. Then we will travel by coach 30 minutes to the Market town of Skipton. Here, you’ll have free time for lunch with further options to see the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and Skipton Castle (must be pre-booked). From here, it’s s short 15 minutes to Bolton Abbey where you can rest by the river or explore the ruins of the Abbey.

walk difficulty: Moderate at Malham Cove – steep climb with rocky terrain and 400 uneven steps up to the limestone pavement. Options to stay on the flatter path if you wish.

variations on the trip

Sometimes things don’t always go to plan and British weather can be changeable. If the guides deem the area to be too flooded, icy or if there are extreme high winds or heavy rain we may offer the same walk but without the option to climb up to the limestone pavement as it would be slippy in icy conditions. We do believe in getting outside and enjoying the outdoors so if it’s simply raining, please come prepared as we will get wet (and have a great time doing so!).
